Professional Journey in Civil Engineering

I am a Civil Engineer with a degree from the Military Institute of Science & Technology (MIST), accredited by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and recognized under the Washington Accord. I majored in Structural Engineering and minored in Transportation Engineering, which fueled my passion for design and construction.

In October 2021, I started my professional journey at Openhouse Architects & Engineers as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. This role helped me deepen my understanding of structural design, particularly by focusing on expanding my knowledge in Structural Design following the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC). I also attended several professional courses and worked as a freelance Structural Engineer, offering services in my native region. As the firm works in both building design and interior design, along with construction, I found it a great opportunity to learn from every step and dive deeper into the field.

Being from the Bishnupriya Manipuri community, I connected with my heritage through architectural design. I became a founding member of Maatra Architects & Engineers, where I joined a team of professional architects and engineers. We contributed to over 40 completed projects, where I specifically designed (structure) and supervised nearly 10 projects, including temples, mondops, and Inchao homes, most of which are non-profit, serving our community.

In January 2024, I was promoted to Junior Structural Engineer & Quantity Surveyor at Openhouse, where my responsibilities expanded to project management. Over time, I ventured into plumbing design, MEP systems, and electrical layout design, contributing significantly to various projects in the role of Junior Engineer.

My practical experience on construction sites, working closely with contractors and site engineers, allowed me to master work scheduling, cost estimation, and project planning. I now use software like MS Project, Primavera P6, MS Excel, Revit and our in-house ERP system, with ASANA and Trello aiding team collaboration.

In 2025, I’ll be officially inducted as an IEB member, an accomplishment that will elevate my professional profile and reaffirm my commitment to excellence in the field.

Looking Ahead

I am committed to further expanding my skills by working with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and learning advanced software to enhance my design and management capabilities. My goal is to pursue Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and explore new career journeys that challenge me while contributing to innovative and sustainable construction practices.

This paper explores the ultimate strength of the composite floor system of structural steel concrete. ABAQUS, used to research non-linear competencies and ultimate load-carrying capability of such floor systems, developed the Finite Element Model (FEM) in 3-D. A comparison of computed values with experimental results has validated the proposed finite element model. The measured and experimental findings show a good match with an average variation of 10%. In parametric study effects of different sizes of shear studs on the ultimate strength of the floor system have been explored on full size specimens. Results show that an increase in height of the shear stud with the same diameter increases the ultimate strength of the floor system. An Increase in the diameter of the shear stud also increases the ultimate capacity of the floor system.
